UKRAINE NOT TO USE WTO ACCESSION AS MEAN OF PRESSURE ON RUSSIA IN GAS ISSUES, YULIYA TYMOSHENKO SAYS IN BRUSSELS
Prime Minister Yuliya Tymoshenko, who is currently on a visit to Brussels, has reiterated its statement saying Ukraine will not use its accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO) as a mean of pressure on Russia, including in gas issues. She stressed that Ukraine's WTO accession will serve an impetus just for creation of the free trade area with the European Union. "Accession into the World Trade Organization is a good way for Ukraine's integration with the worldwide trade space, but not a mean to bring pressure on other countries," she pointed out.

GOVT READIES DETAILED PRIVATIZATION LIST OF 500 ENTERPRISES
The Cabinet of ministers is readying a detailed list of enterprises subject for privatization in 2008, First Deputy Chief of Staff of the President's Secretariat Oleksandr Shlapak told journalists following a Wednesday Govt session. As he specified, the list comprising of some 500 enterprises will be presented during the next Govt sitting. According to Shlapak, during the near meeting between Viktor Yushchenko and Premier Yulia Tymoshenko several enterprises for first priority privatization will be discussed

UKRAINE CELEBRATING UNITY DAY
Ukraine marks the Unity Day on January 22. This is a state holiday established by the President's decree of January 21, 1999, which symbolizes unity of Ukrainian lands. On January 22, 1918, the Fourth Universal of Ukraine's first government, Central Rada, was announced, when Ukraine was declared an independent state, the Ukrainian People's Republic. Over the same period, as a result of the split of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, the Western Ukrainian People's Republic was formed in Halychyna (West Ukraine), with its center in Lviv.

PRESIDENT DEMANDS FROM NAFTOGAZ CEO TO STABILIZE COMPANY IN 2008
President Viktor Yushchenko met with NaftoGaz of Ukraine Head Oleh Dubyna on Friday, the presidential press service told UKRINFORM. The parties to the meeting discussed financial issues of the company during 2007 as well as outlined basic strategies for 2008. The president noted that after amendments are introduced to the 2008 budget the threat of financial bankruptcy of the national joint-stock company NaftoGaz of Ukraine is to be removed.

UKRAINE WAS ON VERGE OF LOSING ITS GAS TRANSPORTATION SYSTEM - PM TYMOSHENKO
"I think we were at risk of losing, within a few weeks' time, once and for all, one of the most valuable state assets of geopolitical importance," Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko said at the Cabinet session Wednesday. The Cabinet of Ministers is going to hear a report of the Chairman of the Board of the National JSC "Naftogaz Ukraine" concerning the company's activities in the last seven years. "You will see for yourself what was done to the gas transportation capacity of Ukraine," Ms. Tymoshenko noted, promising that the data unveiled will be astonishing.

PM INITIATING LARGE-SCALE CHECKS OF FINANCE ACTIVITY IN COAL SECTOR
Inspection of finance activities in the coal sector will be held shortly, PM Yulia Tymoshenko told January 8 deliberations. According to her, there is information available the coke coal is being sold for lower prices and thus we lack in funds in the metallurgic sector. Meanwhile, equipment in mines is being purchased for higher prices compared to those, available on markets. She also believes, funds, allocated from the budget for needs of coal industry have been channeled somewhere else.
