We nearing deep reformation of national gas market - President Yushchenko

In his interview to the Inter TV channel, President Viktor Yushchenko has commented on the causes and effects of signing on March 23 in Brussels of the declaration on the modernization of the Ukrainian gas transit system with the European Commission, the European Investment Bank, EBRD and the World Bank. Viktor Yushchenko called this step to modernize the GTS for European money as a common initiative.

Ukrainian MFA sees Russia's emotional response to GTS modernization

The Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs is satisfied with the Brussels agreements on the modernization of the Ukrainian GTS and considers 'emotional' a response of Russia's top officials to these agreements. Deputy Foreign Minister Kostiantyn Yeliseyev reminded that Ukraine was preparing this conference on a transparent and open basis, and the decision to hold the event was announced even in March 2008 at the Ukraine-EU Council meeting.

Fight with crisis must unite all political forces, consolidate power - Yushchenko

The question of unity of political forces in Ukraine is this country's homework, President Viktor Yushchenko told the press in Brussels Thursday, commenting to the press on his meeting with Benita Ferrero Waldner, EU commissioner for external relations and European neighborhood policy. In the President's conviction, joint work to overcome the financial and economic crisis may unite all political forces and consolidate authority in Ukraine.

Ukraine fulfills one of IMF's requirements easing government's influence on NBU

The Ukrainian parliament has made amendments to the law on the state budget 2009 having thereby prohibited the Cabinet of Ministers from holding an uncontrolled issue of government bonds and approve of the procedure of banks refinancing. The IMF insisted on cancellation of the articles 84 and 86 of the state budget as a precondition for revival of the crediting for Ukraine.

Ukraine will be ready to conclude association agreement with EU in autumn - President

In the fall, Ukraine will be ready for conclusion of an agreement on association with the European Union, Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko said during his meeting with lecturers and students of the Ternopil National Economy University, the presidential press service reported. "I am sure that in autumn we will be ready to sign the association agreement," he said adding that active work is also continuing on conclusion of a free trade zone agreement with the European Union.

Speaker proposes launching series of round-table meetings

Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada (Parliament) Chairman Volodymyr Lytvyn addressed all Ukrainian leaders with the proposal that they start a series of round-table meetings for the settlement of vital problems. He made this proposal in his address to President Viktor Yushchenko, Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko, parliamentary faction leaders and all of this country's politicians, the parliamentary press service reported. Issue No.1, in Lytvyn's opinion, is a change of election laws.

Ukrainian economy may recover in 2010 - S&P

The Ukrainian economy may recover rather soon next year at the cost of exports, after a sharp decline of the gross domestic product in 2009, says Frank Gill, Standard & Poor's credit analyst for Russia, Kazakhstan and Ukraine. In his words, Ukraine's GDP will grow 4.5% in 2010, when this year the economy is expected to decline by 12%.

President backs SBU's actions against Naftogaz of Ukraine officials - press secretary

President Viktor Yushchenko fully supports the actions of the SBU personnel to have instituted and have been investigating into a criminal case upon suspicion of the malfeasant by officials of NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine and the customs, President's press secretary Iryna Vannykova announced, UKRINFORM learned from the presidential press-service. "The security service is acting legally and within the powers envisaged by the law solely," she stressed.

Naftogaz will repay February deliveries in time

National joint stock company Naftogaz of Ukraine promised to pay for the natural gas supplies in February in good time, i.e. before the end of the week, when Russia's Gazprom promised not to impose fines or cut the deliveries. This agreement was reached by phone between Naftogaz head Oleh Dubyna and Gazprom head Aleksey Miller, the ICTV Ukrainian television channel reported.
