Yushchenko says his party must strengthen consolidation of political forces
Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko says that the main objective of his party, Our Ukraine, is consolidation of political forces. He made a statement to this effect upon completion of the 7th congress of the Our Ukraine political party. "Task No. 1 is consolidation of political forces," Yushchenko noted. He said that, despite in the past few years his political force lived through a rather difficult period, today, as he put it, the party "is spreading its wings".

Any constitutional amendments should be agreed with people, says president
Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko has said that any constitutional amendments should be made openly and transparently, and they should certainly be drafted, adopted and agreed with people, according to a presidential article published in the Den (Day) newspaper. "These are fundamental principles of democracy, which should always be followed," he said.

Planned increase in Naftogaz's statutory fund not linked with company's debts - Tymoshenko
The planned increase in a statutory fund of NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine is not linked with the company's debt problems, Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko has said this at a briefing in Kyiv. She stressed that there is no problem with Naftogaz's debts. "There is a problem of indebtedness to the company for gas consumed - UAH 26 billion (USD 1 - UAH 7.61). This is real a problem," she noted.

Ukraine calling on international community to elaborate common anti-piracy strategy
Chief of the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine Mykola Malomuzh has today noted at a briefing in Kyiv that President Viktor Yushchenko had repeatedly launched an initiative both at the level of European countries and the United Nations to elaborate a single anti-piracy strategy. This cooperation may consolidate CIS countries and large maritime states - India, China, Brazil and others.

Ukraine sees no legal grounds to debar delegation to PACE from voting
The Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) sees no legal grounds to debar a Ukrainian delegation to PACE from voting, MFA press secretary Vasyl Kyrylych said. He noted that a discussion between the PACE and Ukraine is not political, but legal. "However, providing of a legal assessment of the discussion between Ukraine and the PACE may reach the European Court of Human Rights," Kyrylych stressed.

President calls for review of gas transit rate formula between Naftogaz, Gazprom
Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko has called for a review of the gas transit rate formula between Naftogaz of Ukraine and Gazprom of Russia. "The introduction of the normal European gas transit rate is what is needed to be done within a review of the contracts signed in January this year," he said. Yushchenko said that the agreements on the transit of Russian gas via Ukraine at such a low rate were not strengthening the reliability of gas transit to European countries.

Ukraine counts on credits from European banks to pay for gas being pumped into underground gas storages (UGS), Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko has today told a press conference after the 13th meeting of the Council for Cooperation between Ukraine and the European Union. According to her, gas, which should be pumped into UGS till November, is equally needed by the European Union, Russia and Ukraine.

Comments of Venice Commission to be accepted
Comments and suggestions of the Venice Commission regarding draft amendments to the Ukrainian Constitution, proposed by President Viktor Yushchenko, will be finally accepted, Maryna Stavniychuk, Deputy Head of the Presidential Secretariat, told a news conference on Monday. Tymoshenko rules out coalition talks before presidential polls
