Ukraine to implement gas deals with Russia - President Yushchenko
A price formula envisaged by the agreements between Ukraine and Russia on gas supplies to Ukraine and transit via its territory is habitat and the Ukrainian party assumed complex commitments under the instrument, President Viktor Yushchenko was speaking for an interview to The Financial Times. At the same time, he assured the European consumers that Ukraine will implement these commitments in full.

Gas price for industry to be 'moderate' if no dollar switch, Tymoshenko promises
The price of Russian natural gas for Ukrainian population will remain unchanged, Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko said in the Shuster LIVE program on the Ukraina TV channel Friday, the government website says. "The price of natural gas for people in Ukraine will not change. As the Prime Minister, I and my government took the stand that the gas price for the population cannot be increased," Yulia Tymoshenko emphasized, stressing that the global financial crisis seriously hurt Ukraine, so the authority must be very careful about changing its pricing policy in order to save people's budgets to a certain extent.

Yushchenko calls on Ukrainians to unite around national interests and Ukrainian nationhood
President Viktor Yushchenko has called on Ukrainian citizens to unite around national interests and Ukrainian nationhood. He was speaking at a festive gathering in Kyiv on Thursday, on the occasion of the Ukrainian Unification Day. The head of state said that the Ukrainians had been always notable for their aspiration for unity. "Unfortunately, this unity cannot be so often observed among politicians, but I am confident that unity has always existed and will always exist among the Ukrainian people," Yushchenko said.

Ukraine gets one of the lowest gas prices in Europe, premier says
Ukraine has received one of the lowest gas prices for 2009 in Europe following its gas agreements signed with Russia, Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko said while opening a government meeting on Wednesday. "This is a unique price and Ukraine should learn how to be glad about its victories," she said. Tymoshenko said that the gas price for Ukraine would be changed each quarter, with the average annual price being USD 228.80 per 1,000 cubic meters. "This price will apply to Ukrainian consumers since January 1 [this year]," she said.

According to calculations made by Ukraine's Cabinet of Ministers, the gas price in 2009 on the border Ukraine-Russia will total some USD 228.8 per 1,000 cu m, Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko has today announced at a news conference in Kyiv, UKRINFORM reports. Y. Tymoshenko called the price "adequate", adding that it [the price] will be further raising in line with tax burdens. "This is the last year for Ukraine to focus on energy saving, alternative energy sources using and raising own extraction of hydrocarbons," the Head of Government said. She also noted that the cost of natural gas for Ukraine will be further setting based on the formula marketable price.

Ukraine, Russia sign gas deal
NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine and the Russia-based JSC Gazprom have today signed in Moscow a gas deal. Signing the documents on behalf of Ukraine was Naftogaz CEO Oleh Dubyna and on behalf of Russia, Gazprom CEO Alexei Miller. The bipartite contracts on gas deliveries for Ukraine's consumers and gas transit through Ukraine are for 10 years.

Yushchenko offers free gas transit
Ukraine is ready to pump gas to European consumers free of charge until the agreement on gas price and transit rate is concluded with Russia, President Viktor Yushchenko said this at a meeting with British Prime Minister Gordon Brown in London on January 15, the presidential press-service reports. According to Yushchenko, the supply of gas to the EU countries is the No.1 task. "We will put aside all commercial, conflict issues. This is not so important today for the European consumer," the Ukrainian President noted.

Ukraine ready for non-contracted pumping of gas to Europe with Russia's full-scale supply - Yushchenko
Starting on January 1, 2009, Ukraine has not been using Russian natural gas for its domestic needs, President Viktor Yushchenko said during a joint press conference with his Polish counterpart Lech Kaczynski in Warsaw Wednesday. Yushchenko emphasized that, from the beginning of the year Ukraine was using its domestic gas, extracted in the volume of about 20 billion cubic meters a year, and gas from underground reserves. He noted that this country is ready to transit Russian gas to Europe even without a contract, just if it is supplied in a full volume.
