Ukraine becomes major grain exporter in Black Sea region

After the grain exports ban in Russia, Ukraine has got the upper hand in grain exports from the Black Sea region, UKRINFORM reported citing ProAgro.

On the one hand there is an advantageous position for agrarians and exporters, on the other hand - it is necessary to monitor the shipped volumes when the country as a member of the WTO can not restrict exports. Otherwise, according to First Deputy Prime Minister Andriy Kliuyev, it is possible to exceed export opportunities.

According to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy, last time the balance of grain was recalculated on July 28, 2010. According to these data, the export potential of Ukraine is about 16 million tons, of which the country has already exported nearly 1 million tons.

According to Deputy Prime Minister for Agricultural Policy Viktor Slauta, there is no reason to limit grain exports. Gross production of grain will be 42-43 million tons, he predicts.

The price of the third class wheat in Ukraine has reached 1,500 UAH/ton (1 USD - 7.9 UAH) and continues to grow. This is the highest figure over the past few seasons, even with adjustment for inflation.

"In 2008, the profitability of agricultural production was 17%, last year - at some 7%. This year, if the prices did not go up, the profitability would have been 2.1%," said director general of the Ukrainian Agrarian Confederation Oleksandr Yaroslavsky. "But due to high prices the producers will benefit, though they will sell physically smaller because of the harvest decline.

According to experts, with the risk of more expensive products in the domestic market, the role of the Agrarian Fund and its ability to generate resources to influence the price of the final product without resorting to administrative measures is increasing.
