Ministry of Economy: Industry recovering from crisis



The January positive results in industrial production have once again proved a gradual recovery form the economic downturn, the Ministry of Economy has said in a statement on Thursday.

Thus, production growth in Ukraine has been seen for the third month running month-to-month of last year. In November 2009, the growth was 8.6%, in December - 7.4%. January-to-January 2009 recorded an 11.8% rise in industrial production.

Stepping-up of production was observed in all crucial sectors of industry: extracting (+6.5%), processing (+13.2%), electricity, gas and water production (+13.5%).

Additionally, in January 2010 the domestic machine-building doubled carriage output, trailer and semitrailer - by 1.5 times, trucks - by 39.4%, buses - by 8.2% etc.

The ministry officials say though January to December saw a seasonal cut in industrial production by 12.5%, this figure meets the average annual seasonal reduction in all.

According to the State Statistics Committee, industrial production growth in January 2010 after January 2009 posted 11.8%, while production decline in January 2010 made 12.5% compared with December 2009.
