US Vice President Joe Biden has confirmed the security guarantees that the United States, Russia and Great Britain gave to Ukraine within the framework of the Budapest memorandum in 1994. He made a statement to this effect, addressing Ukrainian and American businessmen at the end of his working visit to Ukraine.

In this context Biden noted that the US interest in Ukraine is confirmed by the program of assistance, in whose frames USD 120 million is provided to support peace and security, upgrade the Armed Forces, reinforce the Shelter facility, combat AIDS, and for other health programs.

In April, Parliament Speaker Volodymyr Lytvyn said Ukraine should take the position of principle on the issue of its security guarantees in connection with renunciation of nuclear status, and the agreement on those guarantees must be of a binding nature.
