Ukraine calling on international community to elaborate common anti-piracy strategy
|
Chief of the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine Mykola Malomuzh has today noted at a briefing in Kyiv that President Viktor Yushchenko had repeatedly launched an initiative both at the level of European countries and the United Nations to elaborate a single anti-piracy strategy.
This cooperation may consolidate CIS countries and large maritime states - India, China, Brazil and others.
Malomuzh expressed hopes that Ukraine's initiative will be heard and backed, as the international community needs an effective integral action program to combat piracy.
For today, a total of 26 Ukrainian sailors are captured by pirates (Ariana ship - 24 persons, Hansa Stavanger - 2 persons).
