Kyiv, Lviv, Donetsk, Kharkiv to host UEFA EURO 2012 matches

Michel Platini
The UEFA Executive Committee approved in Bucharest on Wednesday a final list of Ukrainian and Polish cities that will host matches of the UEFA EURO 2012 European Football Championship.

UEFA President Michel Platini announced this decision on Wednesday morning. UEFA took the final decision under a parity principle, with four Ukrainian and four Polish host cities. Kyiv, Lviv, Donetsk, and Kharkiv will represent Ukraine. The latter replaced Dnipropetrovsk in the list.

Warsaw, Gdansk, Poznan, and Wroclaw will represent Poland.

UEFA will continue to closely monitor the progress of UEFA EURO 2012 preparations in Ukrainian cities. November 30, 2009 is the next date of the countdown. If two Ukrainian cities fail to demonstrate the proper dynamics of preparing their infrastructure for the championship by this date, they will be replaced with Polish cities under the "four by two" formula.

Ukraine and Poland won a UEFA bid to host the UEFA EURO 2012 European Football Championship in April 2007.
