Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko claimed that amendments to the state budget for 2009 would be introduced in May. She said this at a gathering of the Association of Cities and Communities in Kyiv on Friday.

Tymoshenko proposed that city mayors put forward their proposals on the budget code so that they are quickly considered and passed in parliament. She said that this should be done quickly in order to amend this year's state budget on the basis of amendments introduced in the budget code regarding the extension of funds to regions.

Tymoshenko said earlier that the government is not planning soon to amend the state budget for 2009.

Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko repeatedly demanded that the government introduce budget amendments.

An International Monetary Fund mission failed to persuade the government to review the budget and its deficit. The mission left Kyiv after the first round of talks with the government failed, whereas the allocation of the second tranche to Ukraine was rescheduled
