Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko is making no disguise of her satisfaction with a luckless attempt of the opposition to sack her government.

"I can now state that instead of no-confidence motion over the parliament we have got a vote of confidence in the government," she said commenting on today's developments in the parliament.

The Prime Minister reiterated her opinion that the Party of Regions' real task wasn't aimed "at destroying the government", but destabilizing the complicated economic situation.

Tymoshenko believes that none of the current oppositionists now really seek to hold positions in the Cabinet.

"Today's vote of confidence over the government gives us grounds to further implement our program, budget and make everything to mitigate a tremendous effect of the financial downturn on Ukraine," she stressed.

As referred to the threats of the Party of Regions to return 150 mandates in the event of failure to dismiss the government, Y. Tymoshenko said that this step of the opposition would not be a reason for pre-term parliamentary elections. The parliament will be working, "we won't allow snap elections amid such complicated crisis period," she underscored adding that early parliamentary elections will just aggravate chaos in the state and lead to complete destabilization of domestic situation.

As reported, the Verkhovna Rada has today failed to pass non-confidence motion over Yulia Tymoshenko's government initiated by the opposition Party of Regions.

A total of 203 MPs voted for the decision with 226 MPs required (Party of Regions - 172, BYuT 1, OUPSD - 10, CPU 20).

This is the second attempt of the opposition to vote non-confidence in Tymoshenko's Cabinet. In July 2008, the Party of Regions tried to dismiss this government but failed with only 174 MPs backing the motion.
