Ukraine has received one of the lowest gas prices for 2009 in Europe following its gas agreements signed with Russia, Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko said while opening a government meeting on Wednesday. "This is a unique price and Ukraine should learn how to be glad about its victories," she said.
Tymoshenko said that the gas price for Ukraine would be changed each quarter, with the average annual price being USD 228.80 per 1,000 cubic meters. "This price will apply to Ukrainian consumers since January 1 [this year]," she said.
Tymoshenko said that this price is the best one among all Gazprom's partners getting gas from the Russian company.
As an example, she pointed to the information provided by Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk. "He briefed me on quarterly [gas] prices and the average annual price for Poland will be USD 299 [per 1,000 cubic meters]. The similar situation remains in other countries," Tymoshenko said. At the same time, she explained a considerably low gas price for Germany by certain conditions under which the country gets Russian gas. "Germany has an acceptable price because of joint investment projects [with Russia]," the Ukrainian premier said.
