Verkhovna Rada approves of state budget 2009

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine passed the law on the state budget for 2009 with 226 MPs voting approval, UKRINFORM correspondent reports.

The Cabinet of Ministers took into account proposals of the Verkhovna Rada's Budgetary Committee and that of the representatives of various political forces.

In particular, according to First Deputy Prime Minister Oleksandr Turchynov, a stabilization fund was distributed in terms of increasing transfers of the local budgets by UAH 2 billion. Apart from this, the Cabinet boosted spending for the Defense Ministry and the Ministry of Interior.

The budget envisages funds for the Program on Creation and Protection of Forest Ranges (UAH 90mn) and the Program on Forest Management (UAH 22mn).

The parliament also obliged the government to submit in the law's final clauses, based on the work in Q1, amendments to the state budget and make a distribution of financing for the Defense Ministry and Health Care Ministry. The Verkhovna Rada cancelled its resolution on continuation of the session on December 29, 30 and 31. As many as 249 MPs backed the decision.
