Yushchenko says stabilization of hryvnia exchange rate is a priority

The stabilization of the hryvnia exchange rate should become a top priority for the authorities in 2009, Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko said in an interview with 1+1 TV Channel.

Secondly, he said that speculation should be ended over privatization, which should be one of the financing sources for the stabilization fund. Yushchenko said that in January 2009, this fund could be partially financed at the expense of the issue of government bonds, however, it is necessary to develop technologies and draft a privatization scheme to ensure the fund is fully financed.

Another condition for tackling the economic crisis, according to the head of state, is the restoration of foreign investment activity to the level of the pre-crisis period when Ukraine monthly received USD 1-1.2 billion in foreign investment.
