Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko is hoping that the anti-crisis package of laws will become an effective instrument of stabilization of the national economy and minimization of negative aftereffects of the global financial crisis. He voiced this hope during a press conference in Ankara Monday.

"I am an optimist and I wish to say that Ukraine is sure to cope with the problems in economic market," he said. The head of state also informed that the International Monetary Fund had passed the decision to provide Ukraine with financial aid that would also help stabilize the national economy. Yushchenko expressed hope that the anti-crisis package, particularly drafted by the National Security and Defense Council, would be approved in parliament Tuesday.

He regretted the lasting blocking of Verkhovna Rada (parliament), for which, in his words, "the nation has to pay a high price now".

However, Yushchenko assured, the political crisis would be finally settled in keeping with the incumbent laws and the Constitution of Ukraine.
