President Viktor Yushchenko, currently on a working visit to the United States, met representatives of the Ukraine-US Business Council. During the meeting, the Ukrainian President commented on the domestic policy situation in Ukraine, according to the presidential web-site.
Viktor Yushchenko noted in particular that a new coalition is de facto formed in the Verkhovna Rada. The President also expressed conviction that the events in the Ukrainian parliament after September 2 is not just a domestic policy issue. "This, in fact, is Georgia-2, with the goal to destabilize the situation," he underscored. According to the Head of State, the Ukrainian scenario of developments envisaged, in particular, a credibility impeachment to the heads of local executive authority with further destruction of all vertical at the local level, raising an electoral threshold to the parliament and holding in December of snap presidential, parliamentary and local council elections - and as a result "a non-European coalition of two political forces should have been formed, which could radically change the country's domestic and foreign course.
At the same time President Yushchenko said he does not believe that there will be a coalition of BYuT, Party of Regions and the Communists. "Only people's reaction makes the union impossible," he stressed.
"I do not trust in the union that was proposed on September 2. I have little hopes that the negotiation process can be successful. I have more trust that political forces will go on the theme of snap elections," the President emphasized.
