Addressing the 63rd session of the United Nations' General Assembly on Wednesday, Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko said Ukraine is ready to take part in responding to global challenges.

Particularly, Ukraine aims at making a tangible contribution to the joint settlement of the global food crisis.

Ukraine is also ready to contribute to consolidation of international efforts for implementation of effective and just energy policy.

The principles to be observed are simple: mutual profit, uninterrupted observance of duties, and prevention of energy pressure, he said.

The President called for strengthening the role of the UN Security Council, as in his opinion the main challenge of today is negligence of the international law, which is proved by the latest developments in the Caucasus.

Ukraine condemns all acts of aggression and power interference in that region, violation of territorial integrity and inviolability of borders in Georgia, armed annexation of its territories; Ukraine does not recognize independence of the self-proclaimed republics of South Ossetia and Abkhazia; Ukraine criticizes attempts at illegitimate, separatist endorsement of statehood on any territories, including in European space, Yushchenko stressed.

He noted that ignorance of UN principles, use of force, restoration of cold-war rhetoric in the Caucasus are source of deep concern in Ukraine, posing potential threat both to Ukrainian statehood, and to other countries in the region.

Yushchenko reminded that Ukraine supports peace settlement of the situation in South Caucasus, and will promote it by all means. The Ukrainian state will firmly and actively continue its peacekeeping efforts and participation in frozen conflict settlements on the basis of respect to the principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity, inviolability of borders, dignity, rights and freedoms of each individual, the President emphasized.
