40% of citizens afraid of country's split - KIIS opinion poll

The Kyiv International institute of Sociology (KIIS) conducted an opinion poll finding 40% of Ukrainians afraid of the country's split.

KIIS asked the respondents to name three main threats for Ukraine for the nearest year.

As a result, 76% named an economic depression, 40% - the country's split, 25% - a sovereignty threat on the part of the West, 25% - concentration of power in hands of one political force, 21% - the President's impeachment, 20% - a sovereignty threat on the part of Russia, 19% - full concentration of power for the President. 9% of Ukrainians failed to answer the question.

Besides, KIIS proposed to answer the following question, "Who does define a course Ukraine is moving along today?" 40% named President Viktor Yushchenko, 26% - Premier Yulia Tymoshenko, 14% - neither Yushchenko nor Tymoshenko, while 11% mentioned other politicians.

The opinion poll was carrying out September 1-8 in all Ukraine's regions with 2,035 citizens interviewed aged above 18.
