The Verkhovna Rada and the Cabinet of Ministers will currently ensure a high quality of work on the questions of both democracy and economy. Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko was speaking during extended talks with U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney on Friday. "I want to say that the democratic government and the democratic parliament will currently be able to ensure economic growth at the highest level of 6.5%, in the situation in which we have inherited one of the highest inflation rates," Tymoshenko said.
She also pointed to significant changes, which the government and the parliament have made to form democracy in Ukraine. Tymoshenko also spoke about her recent meeting with U.S. President George Bush. "I warmly recall a meeting with President George Bush who said that Ukraine is an open country and has good prospects for democracy," the premier said.
The premier's press secretary, Maryna Soroka, said that Tymoshenko and Cheney, during extended talks, had focused on the situation with regional security, priorities for preserving stability in the region and Ukraine, as well as the diversification of energy supplies to Ukraine and Europe.
An UKRINFORM correspondent reported that a tete-a-tete meeting between Tymoshenko and Cheney had lasted around 50 minutes and extended talks around 15 minutes.
