Events that happened at the Verkhovna Rada on September 2 have stopped the activities of the democratic coalition. A new coalition has in fact been formed in the parliament, as the Bloc of Yulia Tymoshenko united with the Regions Party and the Communist Party, President Viktor Yushchenko said in his address dedicated to the situation at the parliament on Wednesday.

The head of state said he would use his right to dissolve the Verkhovna Rada, if a new coalition of deputy factions is not formed in the parliament within a period set by the law.

According to Yushchenko, the creation of the new coalition has not been based on Ukrainian and state interests. "The democratic coalition has been betrayed by this union," he said.

The head of state said that a political anti-constitutional coup had started in the parliament on Tuesday, and anti-Ukrainian and anti-state decisions had been taken. "The Bloc of Yulia Tymoshenko, the Regions Party and the Communists resumed an anti-constitutional law on the government, which in 2007 brought a parliamentary crisis and early elections," Yushchenko said. He noted that this law "establishes the dictatorship of the prime minister, the government becomes uncontrollable and an elementary balance of power is destroyed."

As UKRINFORM reported, the parliament, with the help of the Regions Party and the Bloc of Yulia Tymoshenko, on Tuesday passed a number of laws on the redistribution of powers in favor of the government and the parliament.
