Verkhovna Rada amends state budget

The Verkhovna Rada has adopted compromise draft amendments to the state budget 2008 to mitigate the disaster effects in Ukraine's 6 regions. A total of 441 MPs voted for the decision.
In particular, the expenditure side is increased by UAH 5,802.200 billion (USD 1 - UAH 4.84). Including, expenditures of the general fund are enlarged by UAH 5,046.800 billion.
The reserve fund expenditures grew by UAH 1.7 billion, a special road fund - UAH 775.4 million.
The law also envisages an increase in the Agrarian Fund budget by UAH 1 billion and allocation of UAH 400 million to cover the interest rates on the loans for farm goods producers.
Apart from this, the Ukrainian parliament voted for increasing tobacco excise taxes the Cabinet insisted on.
At the same time, the Verkhovna Rada refused to adopt two budget amendments. In particular, the MPs refused to endorse a norm on providing UAH 24.3 billion of governmental guarantees to recover a road infrastructure. Furthermore, the Verkhovna Rada did not back a decision to recognize the Economics Ministry as funds administrator for mitigation of flood consequences.
