Ukraine may help the European Union to solve such crucial issues as overcoming foodstuffs crisis and rise in prices of energy resources, Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko said this at a joint news conference with leader of the European People's Party (EPP) Wilfried Martens. "Expecting this year crops yield 2-3 times greater, Ukraine may make its considerable contribution to supplying the EU countries with foodstuffs," she said.
Tymoshenko also noted that through implementing joint programs with Europe, Ukraine may double electric power generation it will be able to supply to Europe provided Ukraine joins a common European energy system.
EPP leader Wilfried Martens noted that Ukraine, in terms of price hike for foodstuffs and oil, may help Europe by fulfilling steps planned by the Prime Minister and the Ukrainian government.
On behalf of the European People's Party, he expressed concern about the pressure which, according to him, put on the government in Ukraine. "We, as a party, and I personally are worried about constant attacks on the government and attempts to block implementation of economic reforms by the government," Wilfried Martens said emphasizing that the EPP is surprised and amazed at decisiveness of Tymoshenko's government in implementing the reforms.
