PRESIDENT URGES MAJORITY TO UNDERTAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR STABLE RADA WORK

Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko has called on the parliamentary majority to undertake responsibility for stable and constructive work of Verkhovna Rada, and immediately start consideration of the package of priority social bills. He made this call at a news briefing following his meeting with the Parliament Speaker and faction leaders, an UKRINFORM correspondent reported.

"I am addressing this call to the parliamentary majority: to undertake responsibility for the situation in parliament, to assume commitments on parliament's stabilization, to start pragmatic work and immediately adopt a new budget, to pass bills forming the package of social, economic and humanitarian initiatives," Yushchenko said. He emphasized that a wide spectrum of vitally important issues, from price rises, support for agriculture and situation at SJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine, to humanitarian, information and other subjects, take Verkhovna Rada's immediate reaction.

The President paid special attention to responsibility of the parliamentary-governmental majority for fight with inflation. "It is possible to do so effectively and responsibly only through immediate revision and amendment of the national budget," he emphasized adding that not a single country combats inflation without an effective budget tool.

Beside that, the head of state says, it is necessary to immediately formulate the 2008 strategy, and irrespective of likings and participation in majority or minority, get consolidated around national interests. "We need to return to a constructive path, and shoulder responsibility. We have a nation behind us, progress of this country," Yushchenko summarized.
