PRESIDENT YUSHCHENKO SUGGESTS ENHANCING SOCIAL DIALOGUE AMONG GOVERNMENT, EMPLOYERS AND TRADE UNIONS

At today's meeting of the National Trilateral Social Economic Council, President Viktor Yushchenko expressed himself for enhancement of a social dialogue in the state. According to him, there is a need for effective cooperation between main social partners: the Government, employers trade unions and. "I'm sure it is easier to address urgent issues in the society that has such a dialogue," the Head of State said.
According to Viktor Yushchenko, main priority for such dialogue should become protection of vulnerable society strata, labor market development, reformation of labor remuneration, enhancement of labor safety protection, issues of providing workers with accommodation, salary debt repayment etc.
He stressed that parties of a social dialogue should strengthen their influence on reformation and implementation of the country's socio-economic policy.
Viktor Yushchenko stressed on the importance of providing legal grounds for such dialogue, urging the Council to work out its working plan for next two to three years and the parliament to adopt a draft law "On Basic Guidelines of Social Dialogue in Ukraine". The draft law has been forwarded by the President to the Verkhovna Rada.
The President noted that favorable economic prerequisites are now formed to improve people's well-being and fulfill social programs efficiently.
V. Yushchenko also said that global economics presently faces a situation when the growth rates of cereals costs exceed that of the oil products costs and Ukraine, which ranks 6th in the world for cereals export, should use the situation to its benefit.
At the same time he stressed that he is extremely concerned about sharp inflation development.
President Yushchenko believes that when amending the State Budget 2008 it is necessary to take into account high inflation rates and waits for particular proposals to curb inflation from the social partners.
