Yuliya Tymoshenko, who was elected by the parliament as the Prime Minister on December 18, held the first session of her Cabinet on Wednesday. The session focused on drafting the 2008 budget, which will undergo significant corrections, but will be adopted by late December 2007. The government will also embark on drafting its program of activities, dubbed "Ukrainian Breakthrough: For the People, Not for Politicians". According to the prime minister, the Cabinet will submit the program to the parliament right after New Year.
Tymoshenko demanded to check the activities of the previous government of Viktor Yanukovych, whom she accused of corruption.
Tymoshenko demanded to hold an audit, "with a view of analyzing the economy, we inherited from the previous government." "Considering the specific character of the power before us, I want the anti-corruption checks were held at the level of every ministry," she stressed.
The story is about how each kopeck was spent, each tender was staged, each license was issued, each entity sold, what the state has gained and lost from these.
Tymoshenko said a new Head of the Control and Revision Office will be appointed already on Wednesday. The immediate appointment is connected with the urgent need of internal control of the power.
Mykola Syvulsky is predicted to be appointed to the post.
