World Bank sees Ukrainian stabilization
KYIV, June 2 /UKRINFORM/. The World Bank pointed out the signs of stabilization in the economy and banking sector of Ukraine, Martin Raiser, the bank's country director for Ukraine, said in the course of a round-table meeting on the lessons of the global financial crisis for this country.
The crisis is still developing, and its return is possible even if we see light at the end of the tunnel, he said adding that it is necessary to keep on alert despite any signs of stabilization.
Speaking about Ukraine's banking system, Raiser noted that there are certain positive moments involving stabilization, but this is not yet a final progress.
The WB spokesman expressed the need for implementation of structural reforms in the Ukrainian economy. Ukraine's main export-oriented branches (metallurgy and chemical industry) will have to undergo serious changes. Many enterprises of this sector, as a result of the current high prices of energy carriers, will be unable to compete with other countries' companies whose production process was upgraded, Raiser says.
