Ukraine pretends to six-star status from UEFA

KYIV, March 24 /UKRINFORM/. The 8th UEFA Grassroots Workshop was held in Hamburg, March 16-20. Members of the UEFA working group decided to provide Ukraine with an opportunity to gain a six-star status in frames of the UEFA Grassroots Charter and to allocate a financial assistance of EUR 100,000, press-service of the Football Federation of Ukraine (FFU) reports.

The UEFA experts resolved to nominate Ukraine, as well as England, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway and Scotland for getting a six-star status within the UEFA Grassroots Charter.

The national associations that join the Charter will get one star, and then they are assigned other stars for development of grassroots and child football. The association can gain up to seven stars, which will reflect a deep approach to the policy of grassroots football development.

Stig Ove Sandnes, a member of the UEFA Grassroots Panel, had earlier studied the issue on Ukraine's possibility to get a six-star status. He reported that the country meets three major criteria: attracting investments to the grassroots football infrastructure, implementing educational programs of grassroots football, and initiatives on promoting grassroots football involving government agencies. In particular UEFA got extremely interested in Ukraine's experience to arrange training courses for games masters of comprehensive schools.

Yet no country has a six-star status.
