Tomenko will determine on results of Yanukovych's meeting with Putin based on documents

  • Mykola Tomenko

KYIV, December 7 /Ukrinform/. To determine a position on the results of a meeting between the Presidents of Ukraine and Russia Viktor Yanukovych and Vladimir Putin is premature until familiarization with documents, which were possibly signed by them.

People's deputy Mykola Tomenko has said about this answering the questions of participants in the public hearings in Kaniv how to react to information that Yanukovych allegedly signed a strategic agreement with Russia envisaging obligations on accession to the Customs Union, the politician's press service informed.

First, at the minimum, it is necessary to publish this document, therefore I approached the President with a requirement to present a text of this document in order to familiarize with it. Second, it is necessary to understand whether the document was signed in the form of an international agreement. And if this so, it should be ratified by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine,” Tomenko noted.

In addition, according to him, if the document regulates the provision of loans and the revision of the gas agreement - this is one thing. If it provides some form of accession to the Customs Union, and therefore the transfer of sovereign powers to another interstate union - this is quite another thing.

“Therefore, under any conditions, it is necessary to clear out what exactly was signed by Viktor Yanukovych with the President of Russia,” Tomenko summed up.

To remind, as mass media reported, Editor of the Economist Edward Lucas, referring to own sources, has said that President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych signed a strategic agreement with Russia yesterday, which includes obligations to join the Customs Union.

Friday, Viktor Yanukovych has spent about six hours in Russia, where he has met with Vladimir Putin.

Foreign Minister Leonid Kozhara on the national TV commented that Ukraine and Russia are preparing an agreement about strategic partnership on industrial cooperation.
