20mln Ukrainians living abroad

KYIV, August 28 /UKRINFORM/. The Ukrainian World Congress states that the Ukrainian diaspora abroad makes up over 20 million, Ukrainian World Congress President Eugene Czolij has said on the eve of a ceremony of signing the Memorandum on Cooperation between the Congress and the Culture and Tourism Ministry of Ukraine.

"The Ukrainian World Congress represents interests of total Ukrainian diaspora numbering over 20 million Ukrainians for 42 years", he said.

According to Eugene Czolij, the Congress includes organizations of Ukrainians from 32 countries, the organization of Ukrainians living in Turkey may join it in the near future.

In addition to this, the Ukrainian World Congress has a special consultative status at the UN Economic and Social council.

Eugene Czolij said that among main tasks put by the Congress is preservation of national identity of the Ukrainians living abroad and support for and development of Ukrainian culture in diaspora.
